&Beyond Suyian Lodge is a luxury property located within the 44,000-acre Suyian Conservancy in Laikipia, Kenya. The lodge's design is inspired by the ancient rock formations of the region. Its structures are built directly into the escarpment, using curved forms and natural stone to blend with the environment.
The lodge offers panoramic views of the granite kopjes and vast plains below, with glimpses of the Ewaso Narok River and Mount Kenya in the distance. The interior design reflects an Afro Wabi-Sabi sentiment, with an emphasis on natural textures and subtle cultural details inspired by local semi-nomadic tribes.
Accommodation and Suites
The lodge contains 14 spacious suites, including a dedicated Family Suite and a Triple Suite option. Each suite is open-fronted, offering an uninterrupted connection to the surrounding wilderness from the bedroom, ensuite bathroom, and separate lounge area.
Standard features for every suite include a private al fresco deck with a rim-flow plunge pool. There is also an outdoor shower, providing a unique safari experience. The Family Suite includes all the features of a regular suite, plus an additional, slightly smaller children's bedroom and a separate bathroom to accommodate families comfortably.
Dining and Culinary Experiences
The dining philosophy at Suyian Lodge centers on fresh, homegrown, and locally sourced ingredients. Many meals feature produce from the on-site shamba (kitchen herb garden), with a focus on sustainable and seasonal cooking. The lodge also produces a selection of in-house pickles and preserves.
Guests can dine in a variety of indoor and outdoor locations. Options include meals at the chef's table in the house kitchen, in the private dining room, or outside on an expansive deck. The central guest area also features a campfire-style sunken firepit and a circular Samburu bar for pre- or post-dinner drinks.
Lodge Facilities and Wellness
The main guest area includes a library that doubles as an interpretive centre for conservation talks. An interactive map room provides more information about the region's wildlife and geography. The lodge also has a Safari Shop featuring ethical fashion and décor from Kenyan designers.
A dedicated wellness centre is nestled between the rocky outcrops. It contains two treatment rooms with private showers and verandas, a steam room, and a cold plunge pool. Adjacent to the main area is a state-of-the-art gym and a shaded outdoor yoga space where daily yoga sessions are offered.
